Jefferson was handed the bulk of the touches at running back in Detroit’s 27-17 defeat against the Colts, and although he didn’t score a touchdown, he did produce a highlight-reel move that might have been the play of the preseason.
Early in the game, Jefferson leapt over a helpless Colts defender, looking eerily similar to Le’Veon Bell of old. Here’s how the play goes:
Jefferson rushed for 43 yards on 11 carries on the night, and he seemed to be a guy the Lions could rely on in a much-improved running back stable. It’s a team that Lions supporters have to adore.
Jermar Jefferson’s Role on the Lions’ Running Backfield

Jefferson is expected to be a third-stringer, but if he can leap out of the stadium like this, he might push his way into the game. It’s conceivable he’s competing for roster spots with others, but this setback revealed where he could fit on the team in 2021 as a rookie.
