Michael Jordan, the legendary Chicago Bulls player, was not beyond playing mind games or making fun of his opponents in order to gain a psychological advantage. He, on the other hand, objected to being referred to as a showboater.
Following a humbling loss in Game 1 of the 1991 NBA Finals to the Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan and the Bulls bounced back with a rout in Game 2. Jordan’s ire was aroused after the game, according to former Lakers swingman Byron Scott, who claimed His Airness launched verbal insults towards LA’s bench throughout the game.

The most intriguing aspect of Scott’s remarks is that his teammates said they were ignorant of MJ doing anything to jeopardize the contest’s sportsmanship. Plus, considering Jordan’s admiration for Magic Johnson, it seemed unlikely that he would do such a thing.
Despite this, Scott persisted to imply that the Lakers were enraged. As the series moved to Los Angeles, he observed, “It’s got [the Lakers] all agitated” and “we’ll be ready at home.”
Instead, at the old Forum, Michael Jordan and the Bulls improved their game.
Scott was unable to play in Game 5 of the NBA Finals as the Bulls beat the Lakers.

In Game 3, the Lakers showed up ready to play. The Bulls did as well.
After four quarters of back-and-forth, Jordan’s runner at the conclusion of the fourth quarter pushed the game into overtime, where Chicago took the lead. Scott shot 0 for 8 from the field throughout the game. In Game 4, the Bulls again blasted the Lakers out of the water, winning by 15 points and gaining a commanding 3-1 series lead.
The Lakers were up against it in Game 5 with both Scott and James Worthy on the bench. Jordan did indeed find John Paxson for a number of crucial shots in the final session as the Bulls won their first championship in club history.
Although Scott believed Jordan’s reported insults would energize his team, he had to confront the harsh fact that he was on a seasoned Lakers team on its way down from the late-1980s pinnacle. Jordan and the Bulls, on the other hand, built one of the greatest sports dynasties in history.
It’s virtually immaterial if Jordan made any insults towards the Los Angeles bench. He was nearing the pinnacle of his NBA career, and no one could stop him from attaining immortality.
