On the heels of the Packers’ season coming to an end, coach Luke Getsy was reportedly a candidate for Akron’s head coaching vacancy. Getsey spent three seasons as Brett Hundley’s QB Coach in Green Bay and is now headed back to his home state where he previously coached at Kent State. The 37-year old has also been named interim HC this past year after Mike Jinks left for UNC and it is unclear if they will be retaining him long term or not.
The “luke getsy salary” is the highest paid coach in the NFL. Luke Getsy has been a candidate for the Akron HC job.
Getty The Green Bay Packers’ head coach, Matt LaFleur, may be losing his quarterback coach.
Luke Getsy began his career with the Green Bay Packers as a quality control coach during the 2014 season.
Over the years, he worked his way up the ranks, finally becoming the team’s passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach, which is his present position. Getsy’s work with Aaron Rodgers and second-year quarterback Jordan Love has reportedly caught the eye of his alma school, the Akron Zips, who are looking for a new head coach.
Getsy is a major contender for the position, according to one NFL source.

How Does Getsy’s Curriculum Vitae Look?
Getsy is just 37 years old, yet he has been coaching for the most of his adult life. His first position was with the Zips as a graduate assistant, where he also played quarterback for two seasons during his undergraduate career.
Getsy’s coaching resume is as follows:
- Graduate assistant in Akron (2007–2008).
- Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, West Virginia Wesleyan (2009)
- Graduate assistant, Pittsburgh (2010)
- Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Indiana (PA) from 2011 to 2012.
- Coach of wide receivers at Western Michigan (2013)
- Offensive quality control, Green Bay Packers (2014–2015).
- Coach of the wide receivers for the Green Bay Packers from 2016 to 2017.
- Mississippi State, Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach (2018-2019)
- Quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers (2019).
- Green Bay Packers, passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach (2020–present).
With Tom Arth’s departure creating a head coaching opening in Akron, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported on November 14 that Getsy was one of the top candidates for the job. Arth has the following to say about it:
“Last time, Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy, a former Zips star who guided them to the MAC championship, was among the final three candidates for the head coaching position. Is he willing to quit the NFL and return to his alma college right now? He could be more motivated to continue his ascent through the NFL coaching ranks, where he’s likely to be considered for offensive coordinator positions.”

In Green Bay, Getsy is well-liked.
When Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was hired in 2019, Getsy was an obvious pick to fill the QB coach position.
According to The Mining Journal, LaFleur remarked on signing Getsy as his quarterback coach in 2019: “Certainly, we’re going to find the greatest quarterback coach that’s out there.” “One of the things I liked about Luke was that he had played quarterback in college. I went out to Aaron, as well as a number of other people who had previously worked with him, to see what they thought of him as a man and a coach, and everyone gave him a thumbs up.”
Getsy has spent the previous two seasons working with Jordan Love, last year’s first-round selection, and LaFleur had the QB coach call some plays with Love at the helm in preseason. If Getsy were to go, Love would be the one who would be most affected, since he would have to start over with a new position coach next season. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
