The USMNT opened the scoring in their game against Mexico with a goal from Christian Pulisic. When Guillermo Ochoa made his save, he did so while wearing what looked to be an identical shirt to that of US star player. The two players can be seen smiling and laughing at each other after the match has concluded.
The “man in the mirror pulisic” is a shirt that Christian Pulisic wore for USMNT’s World Cup qualifying match against Mexico. The shirt clapped back at Guillermo Ochoa after the game, with the caption ‘pulisic’ on the front and ‘Ochoa’ on the back.
After his goal in Friday’s 2-0 victory over Mexico in a World Cup qualifying match, Christian Pulisic revealed a jersey that said “man in the mirror,” a reference to Ochoa’s claims that the USMNT wants to “reflect” its soccer image after El Tri.

Pulisic put the United States ahead with a looping header only minutes after coming off the bench in the 74th minute. Shortly before full-time, Weston McKennie scored from close range to give the Americans their third consecutive victory against CONCACAF foes Mexico.
Ochoa told TUDN earlier this week that “Mexico is the mirror in which the [US] wants to see itself and wants to mimic,” prompting US coach Gregg Berhalter to comment that “it demonstrates that we have a long way to go to earn Mexico’s respect.”
Chelsea’s Pulisic had the ultimate say on the subject, with the team’s social media account even citing Michael Jackson’s song of the same name.

“I was extremely thrilled to come in and assist my team win this game, break the stalemate; to get the first goal was vital, we were really happy with that performance today,” Pulisic said after the victory at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.
Pulisic sought to minimize the shirt when asked about it by media after the game.
“I believe you guys get the point; I don’t want to get into too much detail because it’s not a huge deal, and I’m not trying to stir up any controversy,” he added.
He then joked, “I really wrote that in the mirror,” before revealing that it was written for him by someone else.

Timothy Weah of the United States stated he and DeAndre Yedlin of the United States came up with the design for Pulisic’s jersey.
“‘It was only to convey a message,’ Weah said. “Mexico had been yelling a lot before the game. To silence them, we must continue to win games and defeat them. That’s the only way we’ll gain their respect and that of the rest of the world.”
The game had some heated moments between the players, with Mexico receiving two yellow cards and the United States receiving four, two of which were given to defender Miles Robinson, who would miss the following game against Jamaica. McKennie will also miss the game against the Reggae Boyz due to accumulating too many yellow cards.
“We despise Mexico’s soccer team, right, and we’re tough competitors who want to win every time on the pitch,” Berhalter said, emphasizing the difference between the squad and the country’s citizens. “After that, you shake hands and go away. We have a great deal of admiration for them.”
The victory is the USMNT’s third in a row against Mexico, after triumphs in the Nations League and Gold Cup finals this summer.
With the victory, the US and Mexico are tied atop the CONCACAF rankings for the right to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with the US having a two-point goal difference edge.
“A tough game, extremely intense,” Ochoa said after the game. “I believe we had our opportunities in the first half, but we didn’t complete them, and we paid the price.”
Mexico’s manager, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, said that it was a heartbreaking loss, but that his team still has a lot to play for on the path to Qatar.
“This is a World Cup qualifying match, not a personal match versus the United States,” he said. “I realize the significance of this game and the rivalry, as well as the frustration of losing three straight games against an opponent that all Mexicans want to overcome. We need to concentrate on finding a way to restore our qualifying form.”
Mexico returns to play against Canada in Edmonton next week.
