COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Demaryius Thomas, a former Denver Broncos wide receiver whose calm manner belied a burning drive to reach “everyday excellence,” has died at the age of 33, according to authorities.
Thomas was discovered dead at his home in Roswell, Georgia, authorities reported Thursday night. According to preliminary findings, Thomas’ death may have been caused by a medical condition, according to authorities.
The family thinks Thomas died as a result of a seizure, according to LaTonya Bonseigneur, a first cousin who grew up with him and considered them siblings.

Thomas, who would have been 34 on Christmas, announced his retirement from the NFL in June with a brief video including his trademark grin and a peace sign.
“Demaryius Thomas is my name. I ultimately made the choice to retire…. I’m going to retire as a Denver Bronco “he said “I’m finished, and I did well.”
Peyton Manning, who played with Thomas for four seasons and is a Hall of Fame quarterback, also issued a statement early Friday.
Manning remarked, “DT was a greater guy than he was a player, and he was a Hall of Fame player.” “That demonstrates how terrific a guy he was. He cared for my children as if they were his own. Every teammate’s charity event drew him in…. I’m really heartbroken.”
As word of Thomas’ death spread on social media early Thursday night, a number of former teammates and opponents reacted.
Coach Zach Azzanni of the Broncos’ wide receivers, who tutored Thomas in his last season with the team in 2018, tweeted: “I’m so sad… I’m devastated. I’m completely stumped. Bay Bay was one of my all-time favorite individuals. I’m going to miss him a lot.”
DeMarcus Ware, Thomas’ three-year teammate, uploaded a selfie of Thomas and himself on Thursday night with the caption “heartbroken.” “So sad guy,” said Broncos defensive end Shelby Harris, and “Love forever bro,” said former Thomas teammate and linebacker Brandon Marshall.
