We’ve all been there before, a friend asks you to do something simple and we say yes but then when the project is done it looks like they paid $6 million for a Scotch tape job. We know this feeling well because it happened to us too at some point in our lives. That was a $6 million Scotch Tape Job!
Cam Newton was eating cereal one week. He was back in Carolina Panthers uniform the following day. The headlines were dominated by screams of “I’m back!” Early returns, on the other hand, may have been worthless. The veteran quarterback’s future with the franchise beyond the 2021 NFL season, according to NBC Sports’ Peter King.
Since his homecoming debut, Cam Newton has struggled.

When Sam Darnold was put on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, the Carolina Panthers realized P.J. Walker couldn’t be the only quarterback option. Cam Newton, an old acquaintance, was brought back by the front office.
The Arizona Cardinals had a short week to prepare for Newton. With the seasoned quarterback Matt Rhule taking over for Ron Rivera, he had to learn a new scheme.
In limited play versus Arizona, the former MVP made the most of his opportunity. On nine offensive plays, he scored a passing and rushing touchdown.
Newton followed it up with a 21-of-27 passing performance for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Week 11. He also scored on the ground. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to defeat the Washington Football Team.
Since then, things have gone sour for the Panthers’ quarterback. Carolina’s most recent game against the Miami Dolphins saw Newton struggle significantly. He threw for 92 yards on 5 of 21 attempts with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
For his performance, Matt Rhule benched Newton and replaced him with P.J. Walker, but it was too late. The Panthers were beaten 33-10 by the Dolphins.
Rhule may give Cam Newton another opportunity after the bye week, but the honeymoon period is gone.
After 2021, Panthers quarterback Peter King thinks the team will move on from him.

The Carolina Panthers have opted to welcome Cam Newton back to the city following a tumultuous season in 2019. His reappearance piqued supporters’ interest in a late-season playoff run. However, the club has dropped two consecutive games and is on the decline.
Peter King, an NFL insider, was a recent guest on The Rich Eisen Show. He said that the Panthers would most likely release Newton after the 2021 season.
“There is a common reality that you can see in any coach that is suffering right now,” King remarked. “They are without a quarterback.” In the final five weeks in Carolina, they may dress it up whatever they want. Do you really think David Tepper and Matt Rhule will get together at the conclusion of that time and declare, “Cam’s our man moving forward”?”
King doesn’t believe Newton’s signing was anything more than a gimmick.
He continued, “That was a $6 million scotch tape job till the end of the year.” “They’re going to go out and spend even more money to attempt to repair it once again.” Every club understands that without a quarterback in the future, they will never win.”
Cam Newton signed a one-year deal with Carolina that includes a $4.5 million guarantee and a $1.5 million roster bonus. If “Superman” were to lead the Panthers to victory, the front office could be inclined to extend his contract. So far, though, this hasn’t been the case.
Newton is 32 years old, and although he still has potential, it’s evident that he’s no longer the franchise’s best player.
Neither Newton nor Darnold are long-term solutions.
Joe Brady, the Panthers’ offensive coordinator, has been dismissed. It was possible that it was justifiable. Joe Brady, on the other hand, isn’t the one who traded for QB Sam Darnold, guaranteed his fifth-year option, signed Cam Newton off the street, placed him in the starting right away, and thought that would help.

At the conclusion of the 2021 season, the Panthers’ front staff will be faced with a problem. In Carolina, the quarterback position has a bleak future.
After the 2020 season, the franchise acquired Sam Darnold, freeing him from the New York Jets’ clutches. During the first two weeks, the former No. 1 overall selection looked to benefit from the new start.
With Darnold at the helm, the Panthers jumped off to a 3-0 lead. The former USC Trojan seems much more at ease than he did during his time with the Jets. With his arm and legs, he played games. His outstanding performance, however, did not continue long.
From Week 4 through Week 9, Darnold only threw four touchdowns. On the other hand, he threw ten interceptions. He wasn’t performing very well before to his injury.
While Darnold was a bust, Cam Newton does not look to be the long-term solution. The statement made by Peter King concerning successful teams and quarterbacks is valid. This is a problem that the Panthers will need to address in the summer.
Carolina has the ingredients in place to compete in the NFC, thanks to its talented players and high-potential defense. Early in, Matt Rhule’s team seemed to be in good shape, but weak quarterback performance has dragged the Panthers back.
Scott Fitterer, the team’s general manager, cannot afford to waste the talent he has at his disposal. If Cam Newton is unable to complete the task, the front management should not hesitate to address the team’s most serious issue.
