Welcome back to my Patron Game Review. With the new city building game Patrons of the 2019 edition, developers GamesCampus have brought a new, challenging city builder game to the table, one that I think the community will enjoy. Patrons introduces a new city building concept, where the player must pay a tithe to a nearby temple to earn a handful of resources. These resources can then be used to build a city. Each season the player must strategically allocate the resources they have, to build a city with a growth rate of 2% per month, as their population expands. In this way, the player must pay a tithe to a nearby temple to earn a handful of resources. These resources can then be used to build a city.
Patron Game Reviews is here to bring you the latest news, guides, and reviews of the most anticipated new games on the market. What began as an idea to create a site that could provide readers with unbiased reviews of games that dominated the news, has grown into a full scope website with sections for news, reviews, guides, and everything in between.
We’ve all heard the right-on clichés about how we should do things better, and we should end things we don’t like with a bit of dignity. That’s great if you’re a celebrity or a politician, but what about the rest of us? Whether it’s a relationship, a job, a hobby, or a TV show, it’s hard to walk away from something we’ve fallen in love with.
Patron is the game for you if you like city-building games but want a challenge. Patron has me beginning again and over to improve my town, despite my years of expertise playing strategic city builders.
If you check at other Patron reviews online, you’ll see that no matter how people feel about the game, they always mention the same thing. This isn’t a simple game to play, and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Patron, I believe, will be a Marmite-style game, with players either loving it or hating it. Kingdoms Reborn or perhaps Cities Skylines may be a better fit for individuals seeking for a more relaxing experience. Patron, on the other hand, is perfect for those who like being pushed and kept on their toes.
In Patron, challenges come in many kinds and sizes. From keeping up with housing needs to severe and hard winters that may be deadly if you don’t have the proper supplies, there’s a lot to consider.
There is also the necessity to keep your people satisfied, like with many other city builders. This is accomplished via the production of high-end products. If supply do not keep up with demand, you may face rioting and ultimately people fleeing your town.
Development and Research
There are lots of new technology, structures, and even ordinances to study, as one would expect from any decent city builder.
Decrees may help you save money on maintenance and possibly boost the productivity of certain of your buildings. However, they come at a yearly cost of coins, which may make maintaining your treasury more difficult.
When I initially began playing Patron, one of the first problems I had was figuring out how to expand my population. Thankfully, decrees may assist in this regard, but the game’s brief tutorial just does not provide enough information to help you grasp how the population works or can be controlled.
By far the most comprehensive and amazing research tree I’ve seen in a game in a long time. However, the tutorial makes little mention of this.
The Extensive Building List of a Patron
One of the first things I look for in city builders is the number of structures available. Patrons’ list of structures is enormous, with enough production and beautifying structures to create a large metropolis.
Many of the structures have many work modes, which are frustratingly absent from the lesson. For example, it took me a long time to discover that instead of fish, I could have my fisherman’s house generate crabs.
The same is true for farms and ranches. They can be modified to produce a number of crops, and ranches can maintain a variety of animals, ensuring that your people has a larger range of products to pick from.
Patron is often updated with fresh material as well as QOL information. The developers just included a buildings upgrades panel that displays how many of your buildings have been renovated as well as how many more improvements they may get.
Random Occurrences
Patron throws a wrench in the works by forcing you to make difficult decisions just when you thought you’ve got everything under control.
These decisions may have a variety of consequences for your city, which can either assist or hinder your supply chain. They may also have an impact on the loyalty or even safety of your people.
The King may send pirates to your village, for example. Housing them will reward you with money, commodities, or both, but it may jeopardize the general safety of your town; nevertheless, rejecting will harm your reputation.
There are now 36 events available in Patron, each with its own set of options and consequences. Although, at times, it may seem that these resultant occurrences are becoming monotonous. Many of them center on the monarch making requests that will cost you things or raise trade costs.
But now that Parton has made the game available on Steam Workshop, it’ll only be a matter of time until the modding community creates additional events and expands Patron’s content.
Summary of Customer Feedback
Patron is a bold game that aims to differentiate itself from the plethora of other games available in a crowded market. And, although I believe the creators have created something unique, I am excited to see what the modding community can do to enhance Patron.
On Discord today, I was able to speak with the game’s creator, who verified that the frequent updates, which have been coming out nearly every other day lately, would continue.
They also stated that the game would get some DLC in the future, but for the time being, the emphasis is on creating new content, systems, and game repairs and adjustments.
Unfortunately, there are no immediate plans for Patron multiplayer, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been considered; as the team expands, there may be space for discussion.
Patron Update 8 is in the works, and it will include new mechanics. Patron’s gameplay has a lot of promise, and we’re looking forward to seeing what happens next!
